When the throttle grip is turned, you pull the throttle cable, which in turn pulls on the throttle slide to raise it and open the passage.The shape and thickness of the slide has no real effect on engine performance. However, a carburetor with a throttle slide will result in a livelier engine character at low rpm.So when adjusting the carburetor, you should focus more on the jets and needles.
