A lean mixture runs hotter; a rich mixture keeps exhaust temps lower.To get the best performance out of your engine, the rule of thumb is: the spark plug should show a light brown color. By reducing the main jet size, you make the mixture leaner, increase power output, and the spark plug turns whiter. But be careful—this can lead to engine seizures. As a guideline: jet the engine lean until you get around 650°C at full throttle on a straight stretch. Depending on materials, you can go higher, but there’s a risk of overheating and piston seizure.
